Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Department Operations
  • Prepare and verify daily reports; analyze, investigate and correct accounting entries as needed.
  • Perform multiple bank account reconciliations.
  • Compile monthly reports; completion of monthly, quarterly and annual financials.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet schedules.
  • Fixed asset and depreciation recording.
  • Period end close through Trial balance.
  • Analyze, verify and posts transactions to journals, ledgers and other records.
  • Determines value of depreciable assets by running depreciation software program.
  • Maintaining various financial records, organizing documents to proper accounts.
  • Encoding information into accounting systems.
  • Compiling routine numerical information, performing research.
  • Preparing purchase orders and contract payments.
  • Prepares procurement policies.
  • Reconcile selected general ledger accounts; write journal entries for reclassification of expenses as needed.
  • Serves as back-up for all Accounting positions.
  • Meet deadlines as specified.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of our Accounting Team to assist in the realization of mutual goals.
  • Participate in Open Book Management.
  • Attend collaborative meetings and trainings as necessary.
  • Regularly check email for important company communications and review posted memos.
  • Attend and actively participate in department meetings, store-wide and org-wide meetings, and trainings, as requested.
  • Assist in other departments, inventory counts, store-wide cleaning, and perform all other duties, as assigned.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to use a variety of programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, Sage 100 Accounting Programs, Point of Sale software, and Microsoft SQL experience a preferred.
  • Works well independently but is able to work closely and cooperatively with others.
  • Disseminates ideas, proposals, feedback, and other information in a clear, respectful, effective, and timely manner.
  • Can consistently perform all tasks efficiently, at an acceptable rate and free of errors, according to department procedure.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Can accept feedback openly without defensiveness.

  • Maintain positive relationships with outside professionals and vendors.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or 5 years of similar computer experience.
  • Preferred: Experience with Sage 100 accounting software
  • Preferred: Experience in grocery accounting
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements
  • Sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders.
  • Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders and squat.
  • Regularly talk or listen.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands/arms for reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate unless at an event. Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to; computers, paging, telephones, human voices, sound system and machinery. Job-related travel between Arcata and Eureka area.

Customary Work Schedule

This is a full-time non-union position that typically works Monday through Friday, with appropriate rest and meal breaks provided. Nights and weekend shifts may occasionally be required to meet business needs.
