ARCHITECTURAL / OBJECTS CONSERVATOR POSITION

1 year temporary, though it may be permanent after the first year

 About the Company:

Pacific Coast Conservation is a private collection management, cultural resource and conservation firm with a studio in Denver, CO. We focus on holistic care of collections by combining the efforts of professional collection management and conservation. We work with the federal government, states, cities, museums, private clients, galleries, and universities.

The position is currently temporary and covering for an employee for 1 year, but this could transition to permanent full-time for the right person.

We work on a wide variety of objects, large outdoor sculpture and architectural elements and need someone with a solid base of knowledge in a range of mediums, focusing on metals, stone, and wood. The largest percentage of our work focuses on exterior public art and the National Park Service.

This candidate should be skilled at performing condition assessments, developing treatment and maintenance recommendations and specifications, managing technicians and writing conservation reports and maintenance manuals. The candidate will manage multiple projects at a time from beginning to end. A background in Historic Preservation would be ideal as we often work on projects that intersect with the fields of Historic Preservation and Objects Conservation. The candidate should be able to work independently but enjoy working in a collaborative environment with team members. We are looking for an applicant with at minimum 5 - 7 years of experience.

We have clients throughout the United States, so the ability to travel up to 12 weeks per year is important. Anticipate traveling a week per month on average. This could be locally into the mountains, or to the east or west coasts.

Job responsibilities:

· Manages multiple projects simultaneously from beginning to end.

· Responsible for all conservation treatments and supervises conservation technicians in performing treatments.

· Develops, writes, and implements treatment proposals for the active or preventive conservation treatment of historic objects and surfaces including sculpture, furnishings, ceramics, metals, decorative media, painted surfaces and other materials.

· Completes treatment reports and oversees the photography for the conservation treatments.

· Maintains memberships and represents PCC in professional organizations.

· Stays up to date with new and evolving research and treatments in the field.

· Must be comfortable with heights, including the use of booms and scaffolding.

· Willingness to work nights for 1-2 weeks per year.

Qualifications:

· A graduate degree from an accredited academic conservation or historic preservation program, or the equivalent level of professional experience; knowledge of conservation theory and practice.

· Demonstrated conservation treatment experience.

· Professional Associate status with AIC is preferred.

· Must be able to lift 50lbs.

· Must have a valid driver’s license.

About the Area:

Denver is a great place to live with access to the amazing Rocky Mountains! It’s also a good home base for the onsite work we do all over the country. There will be travel, usually 1 week on average per month, sometimes more, sometimes less. No more than 2 weeks per month though unless agreed upon in advance. All scheduling is done in collaboration with the team.

PCC is closed the week of Thanksgiving and the last two weeks of the year.
