Field Canvasser Clean Slate for Corpus Christi City Council Elections Location: Corpus Christi, Texas
Are you passionate about protecting the environment? Are you looking to make a real impact and get paid? Texas Campaign for the Environment (TCE), a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, is seeking qualified individuals to serve as paid canvassers for the upcoming General Election for Corpus Christi City Council. This is a fast-paced, team-oriented position focused on reaching voters in the community.
About the clean slate for Corpus Christi City Council Corpus Christi needs new leadership. The Clean Slate candidates for City Council will work to make Corpus Christi
more affordable by keeping
city taxes and water bills low; by attracting
good-paying, clean jobs ; and by
ending taxpayer subsidies for big industry. Our Clean Slate candidates
oppose desalination in the Corpus Christi Bay. We have water rates that keep increasing their strain on our wallets, giveaways in the
millions of dollars to industry, and roads that remain unfixed! We know that local elections matter! That's why we've endorsed candidates
Sylvia Campos for District 2;
Eli McKay for City Council District 1;
Isabel Araiza for Mayor;
Eric Magnusson for District 4; and
Rachell Caballero ,
Jennifer Gracia , and
Jim Klein for At-Large City Council.
Last election, with the hard work of our canvassing, two of our endorsed-grassroots candidates won their races against candidates backed by industry, and those that stand with the status quo. The Clean Slate made a splash, and now Sylvia Campos from District 2, and Jim Klein (at-large council member, are bringing the movement to City Hall, everyday.
Responsibilities - Mobilize voters to participate in elections
- Go door to door in the community and talk to voters
- Motivate people to support pro-environment candidates by voting, volunteering, providing good contact information, putting up yard signs etc.
- Other campaign-related tasks, as needed
Compensation and Position Details - Pay range: $20/hr - $22/hr, paid biweekly
- PTO and Sick Time accrued for hours worked
- Expected hours: 16-30 hours per week
- Schedule: Monday-Thursday 4-8PM; Saturday-Sunday 12-7PM
This is a temporary position that will end upon the conclusion of the upcoming 2024 General Elections in Corpus Christi. Because this position is considered temporary, 90 days or less in duration, it is ineligible to be included in the collective bargaining unit of the Texas Environmental Workers Union (TEWU).
Essential Job Functions - Frequently move door-to-door in residential areas to engage voters
- Occasionally ascend/descend stairs
- Communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
- Constantly work in outdoor weather conditions
- Operate a smartphone, computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, printer, copier, etc...
- Commute within the metro area of Corpus Christi, Texas
Qualifications - Strong persuasive communication skills and the ability to work well with a team
- Positive attitude
- Must be 18 years of age
- Able to work weekends
- Detail-oriented and comfortable to work in a fast- paced environment
- Comfortable with smartphone applications
- Prior organizing experience preferred but not required (paid, volunteer, or internship)
- A background in MiniVan is preferred but not required
- Access to a reliable vehicle. (Preferred but not required)
- Bilingual English and Spanish a plus
