Job Description

SoLa Impact, a successful opportunity zone private equity fund, is seeking a Construction Accountant . The Construction Accountant assists Project Managers, General Contractors, and Superintendents in coordinating the successful completion of ground-up construction projects. The Construction Accountant plays a pivotal role in managing financial processes within construction projects. This position is responsible for ensuring that projects are executed on schedule and within budget, while maintaining compliance with industry standards and financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction contracts, particularly AIA formats, and possess advanced analytical skills to facilitate effective communication and decision-making among stakeholders.

**SALARY: $85,000-$100,000 per year**

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction accounting functions, ensuring accurate invoicing and payment tracking through AIA billing procedures

  • Collaborate with project managers on contract commitments, budget revisions, and change orders to ensure financial alignment with project goals

  • Conduct comprehensive job cost analysis and generate detailed reports to monitor expenditures and identify potential cost-saving measures

  • Utilize historical data and expense tracking to create precise financial forecasts for ongoing construction projects

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations by maintaining thorough documentation of all transactions, contracts, and billing records to facilitate audits

  • Manage the creation, execution, and entry of construction contracts, purchase orders, and change orders in Yardi/Procore for assigned projects

  • Audit general contractor payment applications for accuracy and completeness prior to submission to accounting

  • Maintain up-to-date tracking of preliminary notices, conditional waivers, and insurance certificates to meet contract and lender requirements

  • Assist project managers in developing hard budgets and revising them as necessary, while providing timely job cost reports for management review

  • Monitor and facilitate the approval cycle within Yardi, ensuring deadlines for check runs are met by proactively communicating with managers

  • Review projects monthly to ensure budget adherence and produce variance reports as required

  • Identify and manage potential change orders, executing them upon project manager approval

  • Ensure contractor compliance by tracking relevant contracts, licenses, and insurance documentation

  • Address and resolve any issues arising from vendor contracts, change orders, and payment processes

  • Organize and oversee the collection and storage of project closeout documents to ensure compliance and transparency

  • Execute additional tasks and projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture or related field strongly preferred;

  • Minimum 3 years of proven Construction Administration experience

  • Minimum 2 years' contract administration experience, real estate or asset management industry experience a plus;

  • Knowledge of construction terminology required; knowledge of project phasing preferred;2 years’ experience with Yardi required; Procore a plus

  • Ability to interpret General Contractor payment applications in AIA or similar format;

  • Experience with AIA and/or ConsensusDocs contract formats (GMAX, GMP);

  • Working knowledge of the Mechanic’s Lien process (preliminary notices, releases, etc.;Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint;

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and verbal and written communication skills;

  • Ability to work effectively with your team and independently in a fast-paced, demanding environment;

  • Organized, proactive/self-starter, creative, resourceful, detail-oriented; critical thinking skills required;

  • Reliable transportation to travel between construction projects, city offices, etc.;
