Position Overview
A leading nonprofit research institute dedicated to advancing public health and environmental protection through evidence-based energy and climate solutions is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Communications .
This role will lead and manage the organization’s communication strategies, ensuring that complex scientific findings are effectively conveyed to policymakers, media, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science communication, public relations, and media engagement.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Communication: Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies to enhance public engagement and visibility.
• Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets; serve as a key media contact and spokesperson.
• Content Development: Oversee the creation of press releases, op-eds, reports, newsletters, and digital content, ensuring consistency in messaging.
• Digital Strategy: Lead digital communications, including website management, social media engagement, and multimedia content production.
• Brand Management: Ensure the organization’s brand identity is consistently represented across all communication channels.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Work with internal teams to translate complex scientific information into accessible, impactful messaging.
• Crisis Communication: Develop and implement crisis communication strategies as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Environmental Science, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in communications, ideally in science, environmental, or public health sectors.
• Proven experience in media relations , including pitching stories and working with journalists.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in digital communication tools, including social media and content management systems.
• Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for public health, environmental protection, and evidence-based policy advocacy.
