Job description

The Environmental Health & Safety Manager undertakes operational activities required to meet the site Safety Plans for four food manufacturing plants (CA, IL, GA, NJ). Activities include facilitating the flow of health & safety information and programs, completing Safety projects, audits, and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains plant safety plans.
  • Participates in incident and emergency response, investigation, root cause analysis.
  • Partners with employees and supervisors to complete investigations, identification of root causes for all incidents.
  • Gathers and reports safety and environmental metrics.
  • Leads plant safety programs and committee.
  • Conducts safety and environmental risk assessments and audits.
  • Manages workers’ compensation program to include RTW and associated reporting.
  • Administers near miss reporting and correction process (including tracking and closure).
  • Implements and oversees employee PPE supply and distribution.
  • Communicates plant safety issues and updates.
  • Conducts/coordinates training as required.
  • Performs safety inspections (LOTO, Confined Space, Egress, Machine Guarding, etc.).
  • Participates in implementation, administration, and recordkeeping of all safety aspects to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • H.S Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of direct, formal EH&S experience in manufacturing, or:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in environmental or occupational health and safety or a related field with 3+ years of EH&S experience in manufacturing.
  • Food manufacturing highly preferred.
  • Spanish bi-lingual highly preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA Compliance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with training and facilitation.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Additional Consideration Given for:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Alchemy LMS experience

Work Environment

  • 100% onsite role.
  • Up to 25% overnight domestic travel required.
  • Refrigerated food manufacturing plant.

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold (40-50 degree refrigerated environment). The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
