Job Summary The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer will develop and maintain a fully compliant environmental protection, health, and safety program focused on laboratory operations in the School of Science and Technology (SST) and the School of Nursing. Responsibilities include OSHA, Hazardous Communication, Laboratory Standard (Chemical Hygiene Plan) compliance, laboratory inspections, safety equipment, protective equipment, and instructional training. Responsibilities Oversee and manage a fully compliant environmental protection, health, and safety program focused on laboratory operations in the SST and the School of Nursing. Maintain the chemical and biological hygiene plan, managing receipt, tracking, storage, use, disposal, and documentation for all chemical and biological materials. Direct, train, and document all training for SST faculty and staff in OSHA requirements. Assist faculty in providing environmental, health, and safety classroom training for students. Manage the collection and storage of departmental chemical and biological wastes. Perform duties of building emergency manager for H1 and H2. Supervise laboratory technicians responsible for managing EHS matters in building A and H. Act as the SST radiation safety officer. Work with faculty and laboratory staff to test, calibrate, install, and inspect laboratory safety equipment. Complete purchase orders for chemical/biological waste disposal, fume hood certification, and biological safety cabinet certification. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in Environmental Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Management, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field. Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the field. Preferred Qualifications Experience in an academic, industrial setting, or a state/federal position.
