Title: Federal Grounds Maintenance Laborer

Supervisor: On-Site Team Leader

Department: Grounds Maintenance

FLSA Status: Non-exempt Hourly

Summary/Objective

The Federal Grounds Maintenance Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of work tasks in order to fulfill grounds maintenance tasks and projects. The position also requires employee to operate a variety of tools and equipment to carry out specified job tasks.

Essential Functions

• Cut grass, trim edges, clean up refuse, blow trimmings, fertilize and water turf areas and perform other landscaping duties as directed by the management team.
• Move and install soil, mulch and plant material to assist in with the construction of landscape gardens and related areas.
• Operate power equipment including but not limited to, lawn tractors, lawn mowers, string trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, sod cutters and chain saws
• Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment
• Weeding, cutting, planting
• Assists with irrigation. Ensure drip lines are placed accordingly.
• Position requires employee to stoop, stand, squat for the duration of the workday
• Drives Green waste items to the bins
• Must always wear appropriate personal protective equipment
• Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned

Requirements

• Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
• Effective communication skills-must be able to carry out verbal instructions, read labels and signs
• Time management skills
• Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various landscape/construction practices
• Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
• Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks
• Preference will be given to candidates with a valid driver's license and driving record
• Ability to lift 8lbs to 25lbs daily and up to 50lbs occasionally (or more) repeatedly through an entire work shift
• Excellent stamina is required
• Flexible working hours

Work Conditions

• Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and materials
• Requires good manual dexterity
• Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis
• Work outside in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
