Overview Fleet Maintenance Manager - BU at Republic Services — The Business Unit Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing up to 5+ maintenance shops and managing multiple teams of technicians, maintenance supervisors and/or other maintenance managers who are responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet of vehicles up to 91+ trucks (diesel and alternate fuel) machinery that supports approximately 3 post-collection facilities and 3 container shops. The role provides direction at the shop level and indirectly through multiple maintenance supervisors to ensure repairs and maintenance are performed in compliance with the Company’s safety and compliance standards and all federal and state regulations. Responsibilities Provide direction to on-site technicians and technician supervisors, and leadership to maintenance supervisors or managers, ensuring all repair/maintenance work is performed safely, efficiently and timely. Reallocate resources among sites as appropriate. Oversee coordination, planning and scheduling of all repair work to increase productivity and effectively manage overtime. Monitor shops’ performance and implement procedures for improvements. Report to management on shops’ performance. Oversee daily shop huddles, fleet walk-arounds, coaching and counseling of lead technicians and maintenance supervisors on performance and corrective action. Participate in hiring/termination decisions with HR and management; oversee employee training and performance evaluations. Maintain an ongoing preventive maintenance program for all shops within geographic responsibility. Identify trends in road calls and breakdowns; oversee facility maintenance; control costs related to personnel, purchasing, inventory and outsourcing of repairs. Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure work adheres to safety and compliance procedures and regulations; identify training opportunities and document corrective actions as needed. Accountable for scheduled Quality Control Inspections, tracking issues and resolutions to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems of heavy equipment and vehicles; perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance on-site and on-road; including engine/chassis repairs, vehicle body control systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, heating/air conditioning, and welding for heavy equipment. Manage payroll, employee records, preventive/corrective maintenance history, and data entry in Dossier Maintenance Software; prepare and submit budgets; set departmental goals aligned with leadership targets. Travel required. Qualifications Knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office. Advanced Root Cause Problem Solving. Effective and professional communication skills. Automotive Service Excellence T2 Diesel Engine, T Master Certified; T3 Drive, T4 Brake, TS Suspension and Steering. Certified Automotive Fleet Management (CAFM) Financial Systems, CAFM Risk/Information/Asset Management, CAFM Vehicle. Fuel Management or related technology knowledge. At least 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor for a large fleet or multi-site locations with knowledge of OSHA HazCom; Lock Out Tag Out; and Fire Protection regulations.
