Overview Job Title: Golf Course Superintendent Location: Whidbey Golf Club - Oak Harbor, Washington Reports To: General Manager / Greens Committee Chair Type: Full-Time, Exempt About Whidbey Golf Club: Whidbey Golf Club is a semi-private, member-focused 18-hole golf course located in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. Known for its scenic setting, mature trees, and year-round playability, the club offers a classic Pacific Northwest golf experience. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Superintendent to lead our turf and grounds maintenance operations and ensure the highest possible standards of course conditioning. Position Summary: The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This includes agronomic planning, budgeting, staffing, and maintaining the golf course in excellent playing condition throughout the year. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with strong turf management expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering a first-class golf experience. Experience Required Preferred Qualifications: 3-5+ years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. Degree or certificate in Agronomy, Turf Management, Horticulture, or a related field preferred. Washington State Pesticide Applicator's License (or ability to obtain within 90 days). In-depth knowledge of turfgrass science, irrigation systems, pest/disease management, and equipment operations. Strong leadership and team management skills. Experience with budgeting, cost controls, and capital planning. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Commitment to environmental stewardship and best practices in sustainable turf management. Essential Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Direct and manage all aspects of golf course maintenance including turf management, irrigation, chemical/fertilizer applications, and equipment maintenance. Develop and implement agronomic plans and maintenance schedules that support optimal course conditions year-round. Supervise, train, and lead the grounds maintenance team to ensure high performance, safety, and morale. Prepare and manage annual maintenance budgets, including labor, materials, equipment, and capital improvements. Oversee maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems. Monitor weather, turf conditions, pest/disease threats, and take proactive steps to address them. Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to chemical applications and environmental standards. Communicate regularly with the General Manager and Greens Committee Chair on course conditions, maintenance plans, and budget performance. Ensure proper recordkeeping of chemical applications, labor, and equipment use. Participate in long-range planning and capital projects to improve the golf course and facilities.
