BASIC PURPOSE:

The responsibility of the Laundry Assistant is loading washers and dryers, distributing clean laundry and linen and picking up dirty laundry and linen.

MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:

1. Keep assigned areas clean, sanitary and antiseptic by high and low dusting, cleaning all washing machines, dryers and floors.
2. Loading machines, separating linen before loading into washing machine.
3. Collect soiled linen from wings and separate before loading into washing machine.
4. Keep workstation and machines neat and clean.
5. Fold towels and other linen; sort assemble and hang residents’ clothing.
6. Help load linen in cart.
7. Distribute clean linen to wings.
8. Clean out lint traps on dryers.
9. Keep machines supplied with detergent.
10. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Environmental Services Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Understand written and oral instructions.
• Must be able to operate laundry equipment.
• Physical exertion required at 100% of the time. Physical exertion is described as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling and bending.
• Climb a 3-foot stepladder 5% of the time.
• Turns, reaches, stoops and crouches 60% while performing tasks such as loading and unloading machines.
• Subject to noisy, hot, humid and busy environment.
• Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
• Physical job demands may be subject to possible modifications to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: No formal education required.

Experience: Laundry experience preferred but not required.

*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.*
