Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. It is the premiere health care organization for key areas such as Surgery, Cardiology, Women's Health, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal and Mental Health Services.

Job Description

• Under the general administration of the Deputy Executive Director, the nurse practitioner is responsible for professional, clinical, educational, supervisory, and administrative activities in connection with the delivery of health care for patients within her/his particular scope of practice.
• Under general supervision and in accordance with New York State requirements for written practice protocols and written agreements or for collaborative relationships with qualified physician(s) serves as a licensed, independent practitioner responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering and managing comprehensive health care services in a health care setting. Ensures patient and family-centered quality care to improve outcomes and patient experience, in accordance with applicable NYC Health + Hospitals policies and procedures, state and federal rules and regulations and nursing standards of care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current New York State professional nurse registration
• Current New York State nurse practitioner registration, with prescription privileges.
• Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Certification by as national certifying body in her/his specialty area.
• Credentialed by Medical Board.
• Medicaid provider number
• DEA number
• Master or Doctorate Degree

Years Of Experience

Consistent with the Nurse Practitioners Modernization Act, experienced Nurse Practitioners with at least 3,600 qualifying work hours may choose to practice under collaborative relationships with one or more qualified physicians or a New York State Health Department licensed health care facility instead of under a written practice protocol agreement. Eligibility will be internally reviewed and audited in alignment with NYC H+H policy, as indicated by the System’s Chief Nursing Officer and/or Chief Medical Officer

Equipment/Machines

• Use of assistive transfer devices during any patient handling task, if required to lift more than 35 lbs. of a patient’s weight.
• Physical Demands such as: stooping, turning, bending, squatting, and kneeling, to lift up to 35 pounds without assistive transfer device; constant/repetitive standing and walking.
• Use of personal protective equipment (e.g., N95 respirator, face mask, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.

Department Preferences

Strongly prefer National Board Certification in specialty in which you are assigned.

Knowledgeable In

All applicable local, state, federal and NYC Health + Hospitals rules and regulations

Must Have

Basic Computer Skills

Clinical background appropriate to assigned area
