We’re excited to welcome a Payroll & Hiring Generalist to help keep our team happy, supported, and inspired to do their best work. In this role, you’ll ensure seamless payroll for our U.S. employees through our in-house system, while also supporting payroll for our international employees and contractors. You’ll help grow our global team by reviewing applications, speaking with candidates, and refining our unique hiring process. And along the way, you’ll join in the fun side of our culture too, from our annual Onshore gathering to our three-week Offshore adventure abroad. Payroll & Compliance Run payroll for U.S. employees using Expensify’s proprietary in‑house payroll system. Support payroll administration for international employees and contractors across entities. Ensure compliance with U.S. federal, state, and local tax and benefits regulations, as well as international requirements. Support quarterly equity events, SOX controls, and compliance tasks. Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll records and ensure reporting accuracy. Become a subject matter expert on our U.S. payroll system and collaborate with engineering on improvements. Find great candidates, connect with them through phone screens, and keep the hiring pipeline moving by coordinating interviews and communications. Suggest and implement improvements and automation to our hiring process as we expand. Get creative with sourcing strategies to identify hard‑to‑find talent. Help build and maintain strong pipelines for our ongoing roles. Culture & Events Jump in to support planning for our annual Onshore and Offshore events. Help maintain Expensify’s unique, fun, and connected culture across offices. About You You have payroll experience, with a strong grasp of U.S. payroll (taxes, benefits, compliance) and exposure to international employees or contractors. You’re detail‑oriented and dependable, you’re the type of person that sweats the small stuff! You’re curious about people and excited to keep building our diverse team. You manage your time well and can easily reprioritize when new tasks or challenges come up. You’re collaborative and flexible, happy to pitch in on culture‑building projects when needed. Bonus points: you have experience automating back‑office processes with AI or using Alteryx. You’re based in Portland, OR or San Francisco, CA. Full‑time salaried position with starting compensation of 90,000–130,000 USD, including equity. 401(k) with up to 4.5% employer match. 100% Medical/Dental/Vision contributions.
