Job Description:
Scope/Purpose of the PositionThe purpose of this position is to lead and manage the company's food safety and quality systems to ensure they are effective and continuously improving. This role encompasses overseeing the quality assurance team, maintaining high standards of food safety and product quality, and developing the team through job training, empowerment, and engagement. The Quality Assurance Manager contributes to the company's commitment to delivering safe, high-quality products while ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Primary Duties:
· Lead and manage a team of quality technicians and quality supervisors across all shifts.
· Collaborate with the HR team on recruitment, employee development, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and 360-degree feedback processes.
· Develop, implement, and maintain all food safety and quality systems in a dynamic production plant environment.
· Educate and foster a continuously developing Food Safety Culture across the organization.
· Define, re-assess, and maintain site-specific food safety plans and ensure the implementation of all controls outlined in these plans.
· Manage the site's Complaints Program, ensuring thorough root cause analysis of customer complaints.
· Develop monitoring activities to collect and analyze data for improving department-specific KPIs.
· Drive continuous improvement within the plant by utilizing cross-departmental and external resources.
· Oversee the internal and external auditing programs (SQF/Customer/Kosher/Non-GE).
Secondary Duties:
· Ensure all relevant quality and safety documentation is maintained and updated.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement in production processes.
Collaboration:
· Work with production, R&D, and other teams to achieve product quality objectives and safety standards.
· Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding product quality and safety issues.
Compliance:
· Ensure adherence to industry standards, including FDA regulations, HACCP, GFSI/BRC/SQF standards, and company policies related to food safety and quality.
· Maintain compliance with kosher, organic, allergen control programs, and other relevant standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities
· Directly manage a team of quality technicians and supervisors, ensuring operational goals are met and team development is prioritized.
Required QualificationsEducation:
· Bachelor's degree in science, management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in food processing and quality assurance.
· At least 3 years of management experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Skills:
Preferred Qualifications
· HACCP, PSQM, SQF certification or similar certifications.
· Familiarity with laboratory equipment and quality control systems.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb (including stairs/ladders).
• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Physical dexterity necessary to handle supplies, machine parts and tools.
• Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
• Regular exposure to the production floor, which may involve loud machinery, fluctuating temperatures, and standing or walking for extended periods.
• Periodic work in an office setting for administrative tasks, meetings, and reporting.
