This position is responsible for developing and programming various sports activities and leagues for the citizens of Hickory. Plans, organizes, and coordinates a variety of sports programs and leagues for youth and adults. Prepares team rosters, schedules games and practices, reserves facilities, and oversees the program during the season. Recruits sponsorships from local businesses. Works with the Western Youth Athletics Association to coordinate and host All Star Tournaments. Maintains inventory for assigned sports programs and orders equipment as needed. Assists with supervision and daily operations of recreation centers. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills Knowledge of municipal recreation programming principles and practices. Knowledge of departmental safety rules and regulations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Organizational skills for managing sports leagues. Supervisory skills for managing personnel. Minimum Qualifications Baccalaureate degree in a related field. One to two years of relevant experience or completion of an apprenticeship/internship. Valid North Carolina driver's license or ability to obtain one. Additional Information The position involves coordinating recreation activities, supervising part-time staff, and working in various environments, including outdoors. Physical demands include lifting over 50 pounds and performing tasks that require standing, walking, climbing, and other physical activities.
