Responsibilities/Qualifications

This role does require individuals to be onsite Monday through Friday

The Senior Data Center/Telecom Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, and managing advanced data center systems. This role involves implementing projects, optimizing network performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the security and reliability of communication systems. The Senior Data Center/Telecom Engineer will also collaborate with other IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality data center services. Experience in commercial data centers/central office is a plus!

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Center Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of data centers, including monitoring systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring uptime.
  • Hardware Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and repairs on servers, network devices, and storage equipment. Install and configure new hardware as needed.
  • Environmental Management: Monitor and manage data center environmental controls, including cooling systems, power distribution, and fire suppression systems.
  • Design and Implementation: Design, configure, and implement telecommunications systems. Evaluate and select telecommunications hardware, software, and vendors to meet organizational needs.
  • Project Management: Lead data center projects, including network expansions, migrations, and upgrades.
  • Incident Management: Respond to and resolve incidents, including hardware failures, connectivity issues, and security breaches. Provide root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Capacity Planning: Assist in planning for future data center capacity needs, including space, power, and cooling. Support the installation of new equipment. Ability to plan and implement structured cabling within the data center.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of data center configurations, procedures, and incident reports. Ensure all records are up-to-date and compliant with industry standards.
  • Security Compliance: Ensure data center operations comply with security standards, including physical security, access controls, and data protection protocols.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and guide junior technicians. Provide technical support and training to ensure best practices are followed across the team.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations, as a central office field technician or related field.
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Cisco CCNA, Data Center Management certifications) are a plus.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in server hardware, networking, and storage systems.
    • Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools.
    • Knowledge of power and cooling systems.
    • Familiarity with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and install heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), work in confined spaces, and perform tasks in a physically demanding environment.
  • On-call is required on rotation with the team
  • Travel- May be required throughout the USA and Canada as needed

The starting salary is anticipated between $70,000 and $95,000 to start and will be commensurate with experience.
