Job Description:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing accounting tasks in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Core responsibilities include:
• Processing accounts payable invoices, verifying W-9s, and preparing weekly check runs.
• Reconciling monthly deposits and completing monthly bank reconciliations.
• Preparing and posting journal entries, including fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation.
• Reconciling general ledger accounts and assisting with month-end and year-end close.
• Preparing month-end and annual fixed asset reports.
• Maintaining accounting files through copying, filing, scanning, and purging documents.
• Assisting with payroll processing as needed.
• Supporting the preparation of audit work papers and annual audit processes.
• Assisting with business license processing in the absence of designated staff.
• Performing other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (Associate degree in Accounting may be considered with relevant experience).
• 2+ years of professional experience in accounting or finance.
• Knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with accounting software and Paylocity a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Governmental accounting experience preferred but not required.
