We are seeking a Technical SEO Manager to lead critical initiatives that expand our organic search presence across news-driven and evergreen content while future-proofing our strategy against traditional and AI-powered search engines (e.g., Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity). The Technical SEO Manager will architect and execute strategies to grow Fortune's organic search visibility, optimize site performance, and build a defensible SEO strategy that leverages authority, adaptability, and technical excellence. This role requires balancing news SEO (Google Discover, trending topics) with evergreen content optimization while leading high-impact projects to future-proof Fortune against AI-driven search disruptions. Key Responsibilities Partner on a taxonomy overhaul to streamline site architecture, improve content discoverability, and align with user intent and AI's contextual understanding. Monitor and review Core Web Vitals (CWV) and page speed performance scores and failures to meet AI crawlers' demand for fast, clean sites. Provide direction for consolidating and optimizing XML sitemaps to prioritize high-value content and resolve crawl inefficiencies. Provide strategy for expanding schema markup (e.g., Article, Q&A, How-To, Paywall, Video) to enhance visibility in traditional SERPs and AI-generated summaries. Audit and improve metadata (title tags, meta descriptions) and sitelinks to boost CTR and keyword rankings. Strengthen Fortune's Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) signals by optimizing bylined content, original research, and backlinks from high-authority domains. Adapt strategies for AI agents like ChatGPT by using entity-based keywords and natural language patterns. Collaborate with product managers and developers to implement SEO-friendly templates, plugins (e.g., Yoast), and custom fields. Troubleshoot technical issues related to rendering, indexing, and mobile responsiveness on WordPress. Determine strategy and best practices for WP categorization such as Tags, Packages, and Topics. Ensure seamless integration of SEO best practices into content publishing workflows. Develop internal recirculation strategy and logic to increase pageviews per session and reduce bounce rates. Partner with editorial teams to align content production with SEO opportunities, including pillar-cluster models for AI-driven topical authority. Advise product/engineering teams on technical requirements for AI-ready site migrations, CMS updates, or new features. Report on KPIs (organic traffic, impressions, rankings) and AI-specific metrics (e.g., citations in AI summaries) to stakeholders. Required 5+ years of hands-on technical SEO experience, preferably in media or publishing. Proven track record in optimizing Google Discover/News traffic and evergreen content performance. Advanced proficiency with tools: Crawlers: Screaming Frog Analytics: Google Search Console, GA4, Looker & Looker Studio Performance: Lighthouse, PageSpeed Insights Strong knowledge of HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and schema markup. Familiarity with AI-driven SEO tools (e.g., BrightEdge, Botify, Ahrefs). Background in news/media SEO, including coverage of breaking news and real-time trends.
