Who We Are


Brooklyn Urban Garden Charter School (BUGS), is a small, independent, progressive Middle School in South Slope/Windsor Terrace serving approximately 300 students of all abilities and backgrounds from across Brooklyn. 


BUGS i s at the forefront of  sustainability education, diverse-by-design and community-based schools movements . We feature a  hands-on interdisciplinary education with a focus on  real-world problem-solving and exploration of  environmental, social, and economic sustainability . Our Middle School students (grades 6 to 8) are prepared for  success in high school  and to become  critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and thoughtful designers of a more socially just and sustainable world.

  • Are punctual : This position must arrive and be ready to greet students promptly at 7:30 am every morning; in addition to being present at specific posts in the school throughout the day as needed.
  • Has completed or will all necessary workshops including Child Abuse Identification, School Violence Prevention, & Dignity for All Students Act (DASA).
  • Have a natural curiosity and take initiative to learn new things.


Preferred Criteria

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, (required) / Associates Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, (preferred).
  • COMPTIA A+ or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Chromebooks and Mac environments.
  • Experience with basic hardware repairs (battery/screen replacements, keyboad repairs, etc).
  • Bilingual.
  • 1+ years of school experience and/or 2+ years of IT experience.


Roles and Responsibilities Include:


Technology/IT Support  

  • Serve as first-responder help desk for technology and IT support issues 
  • Maintain an inventory of all computers, monitors, keyboards, hard drives, modems, printers, scanners, and other peripheral equipment; to include, but not limited to equipment life cycle, cost, barcodes, etc.
  • Complete computer hardware, software, and educational technology set-up, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Troubleshooting with IT Vendor to maintain technology equipment and systems (e.g. servers, phone systems, bell systems, surveillance cameras, network, software applications, etc) to ensure that systems are adequately functioning for administrative and educational operations.
  • Manage the technical onboarding of new employees, including device and account provisioning, and providing introductory technology training
  • Manage MDM enrollment in a mixed environment including Addigy for Macbooks and Google Admin Portal for student chromebooks. 
  • Supports the implementation and training of operational and educational technology initiatives (e.g. new systems, educational programs, hardware to ensure successful implementation).
  • Rostering students into EdTech platforms. 
  • Research, implement, and provide training on the latest applicable technology platforms, programs, and products for Apple/PC/Chromebook devices.
  • Train teachers on using technology that improves their instruction and published work materials.
  • Manage website edits as needed. 
  • Support special copy and print jobs. 
  • Support with cyber security initiatives and training. 
  • Support logistics and A/V setup of special events & all staff meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Operations & Facilities Support

  • Serves as a member of the operations and technology team assisting with strategic plan implementation and process improvement, specifically with technology procedures.
  • Maintain an efficient and clean Technology office environment and assist with reception duties (answer phone and walkie, greet/direct visitors, support students/staff).
  • Assist with the coordination of facility maintenance and repair requests. 
  • Support the management of furniture and facility maintenance requests, including assisting ith the assembly and installation of small furniture and fixtures as needed. 
  • Aid in the management of health & safety supplies and assist with creating and managing signage and complliance postings throughout the school facility. 
  • Supervise morning arrival, lunch and recess, and other essential culture posts as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the student enrollment team. 
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.


Employee Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm.
  • This is a full time, 12 month Position.
  • Flexible summer hours and additional summer paid time off. 


School Schedule 

  • Student Attendance Hours:- Monday - Friday 7:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. 
  • 5-7 Evenings Throughout the Year, and as needed
  • September Curriculum Night
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Student-Led Portfolio Conferences
  • SLSACs Goals Conferences
  • Semester Celebrations


Interview Timeline:

  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting November 19.
  • First interview invitations will be sent out on a rolling basis starting November 26.
  • First interviews will begin the week of December 1: These will be virtual.
  • Onsite activity and 2nd interviews will begin the week of December 8.
  • References calls will be made after 2nd interview and onsite activity has been booked.
  • Ideal start date the week of December 15.
  • BUGS will be on winter break from December 24 - January 2.
