Traffic Control Tech I
- Constructs/fabricates and erects signs in compliance with Texas Code.
- Drives roads to inspect condition of existing road signs; replaces damaged, destroyed or disfigured signs.
- Reports condition of roads and bridges during sign inspection.
- Maintains current records of all signs erected and replaced; updates sign inventory.
- Fabricates and maintains barricades.
- Recommends and orders materials and equipment required for sign maintenance.
- Reviews technical specifications for signs and maintains current knowledge of revision to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Recommend equipment expenditures.
- Signs for and is held financially accountable for equipment issued.
- May stripe roads as necessary.
- May plan, assign, review and supervise the work of part-time/summer help or sign and carpentry crews; assists others with their duties.
- Participates in on-call schedule.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Six months job related experience.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees;
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License or obtained within 6 months.
- Working knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control device.
SALARY RANGE: $15.71 - $19.64 hourly based on qualifications
