Director of Business Development, DaVita Clinical Research

In today’s dynamic healthcare environment, it’s more critical than ever to get accurate, real-world answers as quickly as possible. DaVita Clinical Research (DCR) helps accomplish that. We are a renal research site network with a spectrum of services for clinical drug research and device development. For 30 years we have helped 500+ clients with their development projects. From centralized research services in an integrated, coordinated care delivery model with primary care and multispecialty physicians, we plan and execute trials. As part of a company providing healthcare services to kidney patients, we have first-hand understanding of development challenges and real-world solutions.

In recent years, clinical research is experiencing a revival with large investments from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Private equity has taken notice and invested into traditional and start-up research companies. DCR is the leader in nephrology clinical research. We leverage DaVita’s large provider platform. Recently, DaVita has become a leader in kidney value-based care, positioning DCR as an important part of the future of healthcare. DaVita is looking for a business development leader who is excited about innovation as well as growing DCR into new therapeutic areas.

Location: Remote, ability to travel ~2-3 days per month

The Director, Business Development is a lead position that will develop, support and drive the new business, strategy, growth and performance of DCR’s Clinical Trials business. This role has the primary responsibility of identifying new business opportunities via engagement with new sponsors and Contract Research Organizations (CRO) partners. Specifically, this role will:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership and operational leads to engage with potential clients and understand their needs and identify how they align with DCR’s offering
  • Oversee efforts to expand lead generation through cold calling, email campaigns, business-to-business selling, and other methods
  • Manage inbound leads through the sales cycle in a timely manner (RFPs, budget discussions, RFIs, etc.) while routing and assigning duties and follow-up actions to internal stakeholders
  • Achieve revenue and sales objectives through proactive communication and management of sales opportunities for targeted and assigned clients
  • Maintain and update information within Salesforce.com platform to accurately support BD pipeline review and reporting to DCR leadership
  • Attend conferences and networking events to build relationships with industry partners and stay current with new trends

  • Develop and implement a strategic business development plan to maintain/grow key client business relationships in collaboration with Director, Business Relationships
  • Identify new business opportunities including new markets and growth areas via engaging with new sponsors and partner CROs
  • Work with senior leadership and operational leads to engage with clients and understand challenges in order to propose solutions
  • Direct members of the team and perform necessary activities related to the timely response of RFPs, RFI, and ballpark budgets
  • Ensure leads and active opportunities are accurate and updated in Salesforce.com platform for BD report generation

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years relevant experience in healthcare/life sciences industry and/or contract research organization (CRO)
  • Proven track record driving sales/business development activities in a complex, highly matrixed organization
  • A proven record of selling and building revenue in the clinical trial space
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure without supervision.
  • Strong and effective presentation skills; ability to convincingly present features and benefits of service to clients.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Advanced degree in business or medical/biological sciences a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
