Chemours is seeking an Environmental Engineer/Scientist to join our growing Advanced Performance Material team! This position will report directly to the Site Environmental Manager at our Deepwater, NJ & Parlin, NJ location.

The Environmental Consultant is responsible to provide strategic leadership and program management for focused environmental programs. The Consultant will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, corporate policies, standards and guidelines, and site-specific requirements.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide technical guidance, expertise, and leadership as a site environmental resource for environmental and sustainability related programs, issues and concerns affecting Chemours Chambers Works site.
  • Support permitting strategies and efforts for current operations and potential growth opportunities at the site. This will include the preparation and participation in permit applications, modifications and renewals
  • Develop and maintain a good relationship with the regulatory agencies including New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) and local regulatory groups.
  • Manage environmental report preparation and submittals including but not limited to Air Emission Statements, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reports, Community Right-to-Know (CRTK) reports, NJDEP Release and Pollution Prevention Report (RPPR), NJDEP Pollution Prevention (P2) Planning Report, and Green House Gas (GHG) monitoring reports
  • Provide guidance and support water and waste compliance efforts to demonstrate adherence to RCRA, Clean Water Act, Water Allocation, Chemical Weapons Convention Act, and Chemical Diversion and Trafficking Act
  • Provide guidance and support air compliance efforts to demonstrate adherence to Clean Air Act, New Source Review, New Source Performance Standards, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants requirements and applicable MACT Standard requirements
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements for site air programs including Annual Air Emissions Statement, Annual and Semi-Annual Compliance Reports, Miscellaneous Organic NESHAPS (MON) and NJ VOC LDAR Reports, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Rule, NJ/EPA Refrigerant Management Program, Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE) MACT, Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Program, Remediation MACT, Benzene Waste NESHAPs, Off-Site Waste and Recovery Operations (OSWRO) MACT, American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, Chemours Sustainability Reporting and Federal/state industrial refrigeration regulations.
  • Participate in audits or other interactions with federal and state environmental agencies and respond to requests or notifications from environmental agencies
  • Drive practical enforceability for permit terms and translate permit requirements into practical terms for Operations.
  • Complete environmental regulation applicability determinations and document the determination for future reference.
  • Drive compliance activities with respect to regulatory and corporate requirements, routine, and non-routine activities such as environmental impact assessments of operations projects or process changes
  • Participate in Corporate focus groups on regulatory impacts of proposed and promulgated rules.
  • Drive accountability daily, for corporate goals established and translate those goals into practical potential actions for the Operations group.
  • Lead and/or participate in investigation of environmental incidents and implement system improvements to reduce potential for future events
  • Lead and participate in 1st party environmental audits, RC14001 EHS audits and site(s) 2nd party environmental audits
  • Participate in internal and external industry coalitions and stakeholder groups. Keep site and management informed of regulatory changes that would impact the facility.

The following is required for this role:
  • Bachelors degree in a technical discipline preferably in chemical or environmental engineering, or a scientific discipline preferably in chemistry, geology, or environmental science, or related discipline, or a minimum of 5 - 7 years of work experience in an environmental capacity within the manufacturing industry
  • Experience with environmental regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience in the development/preparation of environmental permits (Title V, NJPDES, RCRA, water allocation, etc.)
  • Experience with RCMS, RC14001 and ISO14001 requirements on operating facilities.

The following is preferred for this role:
  • Experience with New Jersey Regulations
  • Experience working in a chemical manufacturing facility
  • Experience with environmental management software including Emission Master, LeakDas, and EtQ Reliance
  • Experience with TSCA, RMP and NJ TCPA programs
  • Experience in preparation of Waste Characteristic evaluations for waste management
  • Experience influencing/negotiating with others at various levels of the organization and with regulatory agencies
