About the Role
The Company is seeking an Executive Director of Historic Museums to oversee the administrative, academic, and curatorial functions of its historic sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, ensuring the highest professional standards and museum practices, and maintaining the historic integrity of the buildings and collections. This role involves supervision of staff, directing preservation and maintenance efforts, and coordinating educational programming to enhance public understanding and appreciation of the sites. The Executive Director will also be tasked with budget implementation, fundraising, and seeking to acquire period-appropriate collection pieces. Applicants must have a Master's degree in a relevant field, with a Ph.D. preferred, and at least 3 years' of administrative or leadership experience in an academic, museum, or research setting. The role requires a visionary leader with a strong background in academia, exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for advancing historical scholarship. The ideal candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships, communicate effectively, and lead a team. Knowledge of American history, professional museum standards, and experience in fiscal management are essential. The Executive Director will also serve as an academic liaison, contributing to the integration of scholarly research with public programming and fostering a collaborative environment between the institute and the museum.
