Overview As an Examiner for the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation, Captive Insurance Division, your primary responsibilities include examinations and ongoing oversight of Vermont domiciled captive insurance companies. Utilizing a risk-focused approach, an Examiner will evaluate areas of captive insurance company operations and business practices, including corporate governance, strategy, business plan, IT systems, internal controls, financial reporting and regulatory compliance to ensure that the captive insurance company is able to meet it's obligations to insureds and is compliant with Vermont regulations. An Examiner also conducts research, participates on various task forces, is assigned special projects, and conducts annual and quarterly surveillance for a portfolio of companies. An Examiner must be self motivated and possess strong time management, organization, critical thinking and communication skills. Environmental Factors Work is performed primarily in a normal office setting at the office of the insurer being examined. Such offices may be located anywhere in the country, requiring travel and extended absence from the state. Work hours will vary according to examination and workload needs. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years or more at or above a technical level in accounting, auditing, or financial examination. OR Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or closely related field. OR Eighteen months or more as an Insurance Examiner I, with satisfactory completion of departmental performance requirements. Note: Employees must obtain a CPA or AFE (Accredited Financial Examiner) designation within four years of hire.
