Job Description: The School of Information Studies at the Syracuse University seeks to fill a position at the rank of Professor of Practice starting the Fall 2025 semester with an initial contract for 3 years. This is a full-time, 8.5 month faculty appointment, but will require summer teaching, as the DPS program is year round. Additional compensation will be given for summer teaching.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong interest and ability in teaching in our Doctorate of Professional Studies (DPS) program and advising DPS research projects.We are particularly interested in applicants who can provide expertise in advising students and research management. They will advise two to three students per cohort. They will help manage the program by maintaining a pool of thesis advisors and committee members, and oversee the progress of students in each cohort.
Qualifications: The candidate must have a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DPS, or other doctoral level degree) in a relevant field (e.g., data science, information systems, library science).
Job Specific Qualifications: Professors of Practice are distinguished practitioners whose presence on campus and in the classroom connects the University community to valuable expertise and professional publics. The successful candidate is not expected to publish their own research as a Professor of Practice, but they must have experience in research supervision in academia, government, or industry. They are also expected to participate in routine service to the school and the university. Candidates for Professor of Practice are expected to be highly accomplished individuals with significant and substantial expertise in a relevant field of professional practice and who can provide effective, practice-oriented instruction in the areas noted above.
Responsibilities: All new faculty members are assigned mentors to assist in course development, classroom management, assessment, and other aspects of teaching practice. Given that the program is taught synchronously online, faculty have the option of living in Syracuse or commuting to campus for key meetings (including two three-day residencies per year).
