Job Description

General Statement of Responsibilities: 

The St. Paul Coordinator is a 12 month full-time position that reports to a member for the Student Counseling Services Leadership Team (which includes the Clinical Director, Training Director, Assistant Director of Embedded Counseling and the Office Supervisor.) The purpose of this position is to enhance student success by providing culturally responsive clinical services including, individual counseling, group counseling, crisis support, training and supervision, and community engagement efforts including outreach and prevention work.

The St. Paul Coordinator plays an important role in promoting and expanding mental health services on the University of Minnesota-St. Paul Campus.

Detailed Job Responsibilities:

  • 55-65% DIRECT SERVICE (65% during peak times) Of these hours, the breakdown is as follows:
    • 35% Individual Counseling : Provide culturally responsive, shorter term, goal focused individual counseling to students in the areas of personal concerns, academic difficulty and career development. 
    • 20% Group Counseling/Training/Mental Health Promotion: Provide culturally responsive group counseling and  develop and present psychologically-based workshops and presentations to students. Provide training and supervision with  SCS practicum, advanced practicum and APA-accredited internship programs , such as co-leading therapy groups, teaching seminars, providing rotation training in area of expertise, and providing individual clinical supervision (there is an expectation that all staff contribute to the training program in some capacity). Provide workshops, outreach, programs, liaison, and teaching activities designed to foster student success and well-being.
    • 5% Crisis/On Call, and Consultation:  Provide culturally responsive crisis/on call interventions during business hours and occasionally after hours. Consult with all members of the UMN community and scs/mhc staff regarding the mental health needs of students.
  • 30% INDIRECT SERVICE Other Assigned Duties: Manage community resources; note-writing and management of e-mail and telephone correspondence; attend and participate in regular staff meetings, in-service training activities, and case conferences; serve on campus committees; maintain and promote the highest ethical and professional standards commensurate with training and licensure; pursue professional development in service of the responsibilities of the position and the profession.
  • 10% PROGRAM COORDINATION
    Coordinate office functioning with One Stop support staff; monitor and coordinate office service demand; maintain constructive relationships with student services coordinators and other relevant administrators, faculty and staff in the academic programs based on the St. Paul. Campus; coordinate/collaborate with St. Paul faculty and staff, academic programs and Student Affairs units in St. Paul

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.
  • Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor  (LMFT) in Minnesota (or another state where licensure can be transferred to Minnesota) 
  • Three years post-licensure direct counseling service experience.
  • Experience creating and presenting outreach presentations to students, staff and faculty 
  • Demonstrated ability to function at a high level of independence and professionalism 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program
  • Experience in providing training and supervision to doctoral level psychology trainees
  • More than two years working in a college counseling setting
  • Demonstrated expertise, experience, and interest in a higher education setting working with diverse populations (such as international students, under-represented student populations, LGBTQ2S+ -identified students and students with disabilities etc.) 
  • Mental health and college counseling generalists who can assist students with career, academic and personal concerns 
  • Trained and experienced in crisis intervention skills across the diagnostic spectrum, as well as crisis consultation to other University units
  • Experience working with victim-survivors of sexual assault and other trauma
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities working as a collaborative partner on an interdependent team
